One of the not-so-wonderful effects of aging is getting loose or sagging skin. This occurs due to number of factors including cumulative sun damage, weight fluctuations and genetics. The resulting effects are the loss of collagen, which is responsible for skin elasticity, and fat loss, especially in the face, which decreases volume and causes the skin to sag or droop.
There are a few tips to preventing sagging or drooping skin. 1. Whenever possible, avoid the sun. Sun damage is a primary factor in premature aging. If you do go out in the sun, use a high SPF sun block. 2. Quit smoking—or don’t start. Smoking is also a high factor in premature aging. 3. Use skin care products that exfoliate, hydrate, and rejuvenate your skin. 4. Remove fat-laden, processed foods with high sugar content from your diet. These foods increase your insulin levels, which leads to body inflammation and cellular damage.
